IV sedation is a type of anesthesia administered through a vein to induce a state of relaxation and sedation during procedures. It is commonly used to reduce anxiety, discomfort, and awareness during procedures.
Reduced anxiety and fear: IV sedation helps patients feel more relaxed and comfortable during procedures, reducing anxiety and fear.
Increased comfort: IV sedation can minimize discomfort and pain associated with procedures.
Enhanced patient cooperation: IV sedation promotes cooperation and compliance with treatment, allowing procedures to be completed more efficiently.
Rapid onset and adjustable dosage: IV medications provide rapid onset of sedation and allow the providers to adjust the dosage as needed to maintain the desired level of sedation.
Many people can be considered good candidates for IV sedation. However, depending on your health conditions, different depths of IV sedation may be employed for you. Your surgeon will talk to you about the IV sedation and ensure you stay comfortable during the procedure.
During the deep sedation, you will be asleep during the procedure and have no recollection of undergoing the procedures. During mild or moderate sedation, you will remain conscious and responsive but feel drowsy, relaxed and less aware of the surroundings. Regardless of which type of sedation is used, you will be closely monitored by your surgeon to ensure your safety and comfort.
Your healthcare provider will provide specific instructions on how to prepare for IV sedation, including fasting guidelines, medication adjustments, and transportation arrangements. It's essential to follow these instructions carefully to ensure the safe and effective administration of sedation.
