Fasting Instructions
Do not eat or drink anything, including water, for at least 8 hours before your appointment. This is crucial to reduce the risk of aspiration during the procedure.
Medications
Take any regular medications as advised by your surgeon with a small sip of water, unless instructed otherwise.
Bring a list of all medications, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements, to the appointment.
Clothing
Wear loose, comfortable clothing with short sleeves or sleeves that can easily be rolled up. This allows easy access for the IV line.
Avoid wearing makeup, nail polish, or jewelry on the day of the procedure.
Transportation
Arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you to and from the appointment. You will not be able to drive or take public transportation alone after the procedure due to the effects of the sedation.
Your escort needs to remain in the office during the procedure to receive post-operative instructions.
Health and Wellness
Inform your surgeon if you have any changes in your health, such as a cold, fever, or infection, before the procedure.
Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before the procedure.
Avoid recreational drugs for 2 weeks if possible.
Pre-Sedation Hygiene
Brush your teeth and rinse your mouth without swallowing any water the morning of your surgery.
Do not chew gum or smoke on the day of the procedure.
Preparation and Comfort
Plan to rest for the remainder of the day following your procedure. Prepare a comfortable space at home for your recovery.
Post-Operative Expectations
Discuss with your surgeon any post-operative care instructions you may need to follow immediately after the procedure.
Have soft foods and any prescribed medications ready at home for your recovery period.
Following these instructions will help ensure your procedure goes smoothly and safely. If you have any questions or need clarification on any of these points, please contact our office prior to your appointment.
